From time to time, the EMAS Regional Office of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award International Association is invited to participate in events hosted by our regional partners, such as the ‘Big Six’, i.e. World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), World Association of Girl Guides and Girls Scouts (WAGGGS), Red Cross Red Crescent, YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Association), and YWCA (Young Women’s Christian Association). Our attendance at these exciting events enables us to raise the profile of the Award amongst our regional partners and their national operators throughout the Europe, Mediterranean & Arab States (EMAS) Region. Subsequently, many of our regional partners’ national operators apply for a licence to operate the Award, thereby enabling us to extend the reach of the Award to even more young people across the Europe, Mediterranean & Arab States (EMAS) Region.

Here at the EMAS Regional Office, we are passionate about our enthusiastic and engaging Award holders in the Europe, Mediterranean & Arab States (EMAS) Region. We are confident that our regional partners cannot fail to be impressed and inspired when they meet a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Award holder from a National Award Authority or an Independent Operator in the EMAS Region. This is why we are seeking Award holder volunteers to represent the EMAS Regional Office at the following regional partnership events this summer 2011:

  1. One Award holder volunteer to attend WAGGGS World Conference in Edinburgh, UK: 13 and 14 July 2011 (travelling out to Edinburgh on 12 July and travelling back from Edinburgh on 15 July)

  2. Two Award holder volunteers to attend World YWCA Council in Zurich, Switzerland: 11, 12, and 13 July 2011 (travelling out to Zurich on 10 July and travelling back from Zurich on 14 July).

To enable us to make the most of these regional partnership events, the EMAS Regional Office is seeking Award holder volunteers who are available to plan, do, and review their attendance at these events. The planning phase will entail brushing up your knowledge of the Award in your country and worldwide, your knowledge of the structure of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award International Association, and your knowledge of WAGGGS or YWCA. The doing phase will entail attending the regional partnership event and possibly giving a presentation or running a promotional stand to share information about the Award. The reviewing phase will entail evaluating your attendance at the event and following up any action arising, as appropriate. The EMAS Regional Office will assist all Award holder volunteers throughout the planning, doing, and reviewing phases, and will cover all reasonable expenses for the duration of this period of volunteering.

If you would like to represent the EMAS Regional Office of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award International Association at one of these events as an Award holder volunteer, please submit your CV, a personal statement explaining which event you would like to attend and why, and a supporting letter from your National Director to emas@intaward.org by 31 May 2011. The EMAS Regional Office will endeavour to announce which Award holder volunteers will attend these regional partnership events on 10 June 2011.

Please note: On the grounds of health and safety, all Award holder volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Reasonable adjustments will be made by the EMAS Regional Office to accommodate any Award holder volunteers with special requirements.
