The non-obligatory*) course will last from Friday 14.30 until Sunday 12.00. It will be held in English language and is mainly aimed at Award leaders of International Schools and Gold Award participants of all Award units in Germany.

It is based on the Common Training Syllabus for all Gold Expeditions and the Expedition Guide (5th edition), which every course attendee should have**). The main seminar method is “learning by doing”; hence most of the course’s parts will take place outdoors.

Like the Award Management Course, the Basic Expedition Training Course is an advanced leaders course and requires prior attendance to the Basic Award Leaders Course. It will be offered only once a year in early spring in Osterburken.

The first two Basic Expedition Training Courses (Lehrgang Expeditionstechnik) were held in 1994 in Sestola and 1995 in Burgberg. It will now be re-introduced because some Award leaders have asked for even more training of expedition skills than the Basis Leaders Course involves.

The course will be run if two conditions are fulfilled:

  1. At least six advance announcements (Award unit and estimated number of attendees) until 05.02.2010

  2. At least twelve registrations until 05.03.2010.

*) The seminar is recommended as a preliminary step to the Wild Country Assessors Course, which like all “3rd level courses” requires the Award Management Course.

**) Options are to order the CD-ROM via the German online Award shop at least four weeks before the course will start, or to buy it cash in Osterburken.
