There is “service” – because everybody is involved in course duties, such as providing food, preparing lunch and cleaning the kitchen; “adventure” – because the first part involves a tour in the countryside; “skills” – because a documentation is to be prepared, and “physical recreation” – because everybody can start or end his / her day with some guided physical activity.

Adventure

Mainly, there are at least three different “adventure aspects” of IASS 2009:

  1. There are team building activities, games, & exercises every day

  2. Both ALC and EC involves a tour in the countryside

  3. “City Bound in Heidelberg”.

The journey to Osterburken or back home often includes some adventurous aspects, too …

Fitness

  1. Not only is everybody invited to take part in IASS 2009’s daily sports activities, but also to share his favourite physical skills with us and guide one (or more) of these (short) sessions.

  2. And then again, everything is like the Award: a longer choice list means a better experience!

  3. To enjoy these activities you should not forget to pack some essential equipment, e.g. swimming things, towel, and trainers.

  4. One individual member of the IASS 2009 Team will be announced and act as a contact person for Fitness Activities.

Service

  1. Like the Award, IASS is more about doing than about listening. This applies not just to its “official” elements like courses or workshops, but also to its “infrastructure”, which has to be provided by the participants, too.

  2. Thus, “Summer School Service” includes

    1. Cleaning of seminar room(s), kitchen, floor and toilets

    2. Preparing coffee breaks and lunch

    3. Providing food for coffee breaks and lunch

  1. One individual member of the IASS 2009 Team will be announced and act as a contact person for Summer School Service.

  2. To manage (not: to do it by themselves) Summer School Service is one of the duties of Residential Project participants.

Skills

Besides the courses, there are at the least three different “skills aspects” of IASS 2009:

  1. Presentations of the different countries during the International Evening involve different skills, too

  2. For the first time, there are “Award Journalism Learning Stations”

  3. Participants prepare IASS 2009 documentation (text, photo, and hopefully also video).
